Which utility trailer should you rent?
Take the 5×8 if you’re making a dump run, picking up a Marketplace find, hauling a few bags of mulch, or you don’t have a big truck. It’s light, it turns tight, and it parks in a normal driveway. At $50 a day, it’s the cheapest rental we have.
Take the 7×14 if the load is long, heavy or more than one trip in the 5×8. Moving a room, hauling a lift of lumber or plywood, clearing a fence line, or carrying tools and material to a job all fit better on the bigger deck. Tandem axles keep it stable with a real load on it.

How to load a utility trailer so it tows straight
Put about 60% of the weight in front of the axle. Too much weight behind the axle makes the trailer sway at highway speed, and that’s the most common towing mistake we see. Heavy items go in first, against the front rail. Strap everything with ratchet straps, not bungee cords, and check them again after the first few miles.
California requires loads to be secured or covered so nothing falls or blows out on the road. Loose yard waste and trash need a tarp.
